About The Event

In this one day workshop, we'll explore places as sources of meaning, be they in nature, at home or elsewhere. We'll look at inner landscapes and bring them to light through writing.

Via discussion around short, stimulating literary texts and through a range of writing prompts and exercises, drawing from memory and sensorial detail, you will produce a short piece of writing, fiction or nonfiction, inspired by a place of personal significance. The sharing of this writing is optional but discussion around the process is encouraged, with the possibility of a follow-up session or sessions. Please bring your preferred writing tools, be they a laptop, tablet or pen and notebook. The workshop will consist of a three hour block in the morning and, after a lunch break, a shorter two hour block.

About your Instructor:

Mary Fowke was born and raised on the South Shore and has always spent summers in Chester. She recently completed a PhD on three Canadian writers of memoir at the University of Lisbon, where she works as a psychotherapist and writes short fiction and non-fiction.
