What is the People's Portrait Prize?
The People's Portrait Prize is an exhibition and competition for artists of all-ages and abilities working in all mediums. The goal is to promote portrait and figurative artwork by the vast talent that can be found in our community.

Originally started in Calgary, 2025 will be the inaugural year in Nova Scotia. This year, the Nova Scotia People's Portrait Prize is open to all residents of Lunenburg County. ​​​
When is it?
The People's Portrait Prize exhibition will be held at the Chester Art Centre and run from January 9th, 2025 to January 25th, 2025. Artwork will be judged by a jury in categories (to be announced), and visitors will vote for the People’s Choice Award. The closing reception and award gala will be on Saturday 25th January at 6pm.
How Does it Work?

Lunenburg Country artists of all ages and abilities and working in all artistic mediums are welcome to enter their work.

Portraits must be of human subjects – no exceptions.

Drop off your piece(s) with your entry form and fees on January 4th between 10am and 1pm. Entry fee is $15 per artwork; $5 per artwork for artists under 18.

All artworks are accepted. No submissions are required prior to the event.

Artists may submit up to 3 artworks, at least 1 will be included in the exhibition. Space allowing, all submitted pieces will be displayed.

Artwork will be judged by a jury in categories (to be announced), and visitors can vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Artwork can be for sale. 80% of any art sales will go to the artist.
